 Introduction:

This guide is being published for the sole purpose of giving information to women who are interested in working as Exotic Dancers or in the Adult Entertainment Industry. So many women don't have a clue where to begin, who to call, how much they should be getting paid, where to get the right wardrobe, where the clubs are located, and a few other things. Hopefully I can answer these questions for you. Also, this guide is free of charge because I believe in creating positive karma.  Got a question, ask here.

Why do Women want to become Exotic Dancers?

#1) The Cash - There's no mystery here. A good exotic dancer can earn $500-$1000 per week part-time and even more money full-time. Who wouldn't want to make this kind money.

#2) The Fame & Exposure - Some people just want to be famous. They want to walk down the street and be well known. Many dancers have gone on to other careers in the entertainment industry. Plus, we've all seen exotic dancers on nationally syndicated talk shows such as Geraldo, Ricki Lake, Montel Williams, Jenny Jones, etc. Most of these shows pay for your round trip air fare, hotel expenses, & limo service to and from the show!

#3) Travel - Once you get the right wardrobe together you can travel all over the United States. Opportunities are even available in Europe and the Caribbean. In every major city in the U.S. there are nude clubs or topless bars. You don't need a booking agent or agency if you have some professional photographs of yourself. You can call clubs and book yourself.

#4) The Attention - Who doesn't love getting attention from the opposite sex. Dancers who start off being shy and insecure often end up feeling confident and sure of themselves after a few months of dancing. Customers will tell you how beautiful you are, how gorgeous your body is, and how they would love to marry you and take care of you. So you can't help but feel good about yourself at the end of the day!

#5) The Freedom - That's the freedom to work when you want, where you want, and how many hours you want. That's why so many women who dance are part-time or full-time college students.

What type of places can you dance at?

There are several different types of clubs, bars or establishments in which you can dance. Of course you must be at least 18 years old to perform exotic dancing in most states.

#1) Nude Clubs - These clubs will allow you to dance totally nude. Legally, they are NOT allowed to sell alcohol. From my experience most of these clubs are "upscale clubs." Meaning they cater to the White business man who will often entertain a group of his business associates, and may spend hundreds or thousands of dollars in one night. In these clubs customers CANNOT touch dancers under any circumstances. These clubs are often very large with a beautiful dance stage as well as areas for private dances.

#2) Topless Bars - These are usually neighborhood bars where local people who live in the neighborhood go to see dancers. These bars usually have 1 or 2 stages where you can dance. In most states, topless bars are allowed to sell alcohol, therefore total nudity is not allowed. I guess the combination of alcohol and completely naked women is too much for men to handle. Depending upon the neighborhood, these bars usually cater to one ethnic group or another.

#3) Promoter Parties - A local promoter will rent out a club or bar and have numerous dancers come in to perform for the customers. Now these parties vary in what you can do as a dancer. Some offer the basic stage dancing & lap dancing, and are done in a very professional manner.

#4) Peep Shows - Most peep shows are located in adult video stores, however, some clubs may also have them. Here's how it works. You are standing on a circular stage. The stage is surrounded by 10-12 booths. A customer walks into the booth an inserts a $1 or $5 token. A window comes down so the customer can see you on stage. There may be 1 or 2 other girls with you on stage. For a tip of $1 to $10, you ask the customer what he wants you to do. Which can go from dancing, showing your private area, or letting him touch your body. The window is very small, about 1 foot by 1 foot, and only stays open for several minutes. Once it goes down, he must put in another token and tip you again if he wants you to do something for him.

#5) Fantasy Booths - These are similar to Peep Shows but there are several differences. a) There are two booths. One for you and one for the customer. b) There is a see through plastic partition between you and the customer so he cannot touch you. Here's how it works. You stand outside the booth and the customer walks up to you. You ask him if he wants a show. If he say's yes he must pay you a tip up front, from $5-$20 depending on what he wants to see you do. He goes in one door and you go in another door. There is usually a telephone where you can talk to the customer. Each show only lasts for about five minutes. What can you do during a show? That's up to you. Some guys just want to see your body. Others want to see you dance around. Others want to see you masturbate or play with a dildo. Others just want to talk to you on the phone. Of course the more you do the more you can charge! At the end of the show, usually about 5 minutes, there is a black partition that comes down, which means the show is over. If he wants to see you again he must tip again. Some fantasy booths also operate by $1 or $5 tokens.

#6) Bachelor Parties - Before some men get married they gotta have a bachelor party. You know, a sexy woman jumping out of a cake! But in real life it don't work that way. Most bachelor parties are held in a hotel room or at the best man's apartment. A few are actually held in clubs, where the best man will rent out the space and hire a few dancers. No matter how it's done each dancer can get paid about $100-$200 per hour. Usually 2 or more dancers will work a bachelor party together. There's a certain amount of safety and security that comes with 2 or more, especially when you're in someone else's apartment or a hotel room. A lot of guys who have bachelor parties have never seen an exotic dancer "live" so usually they start off a bit shy, but by the end of the night their usually very excited. Most dancers will work a bachelor party for 2 to 4 hours. If the guys want to videotape it, you can charge them an extra $50 per hour! It's best to agree to what you will do and get paid before the actual party. Clients have been known to come up short. And you can guarantee most of these clients will be a little tipsy from the Bacardi & Coke, champagne or whatever.

What different types of dancing are there?

#1) Stage Dancing - This is when you are on an open stage performing your routine. There is usually a pole so you can do some additional dance moves. Customers are normally seated around the entire stage. The way you want to dance is up to you. Some girls like to basically walk around and only dance when a customer appears interested. Other girls will dance very slow and sensual all the time. Other girls will dance fast and hard while on stage. That Miami "Shake Your Ass" style is very popular in clubs which cater to a Black crowd. Normally, you come out and dance for 5 minutes and collect tips from the customers. They may place the tips in your garter belt, thong, or bra. Or they may just throw your tips on stage. These are usually $1, $2 or $5 tips.

#2) Lap Dancing - This in when the customer is seated and you dance in his lap. Meaning you rub your butt on his stuff. In some states Lap Dancing is illegal. In others states it's legal but the customer is not allowed to touch you. Of course some clubs do bend these rules. Lap dances usually last for about 3-5 minutes.

#3) Table Dancing - This is when the customer is seated and you dance on a small, round, 1 foot tall stool called a table. Table dances usually last for 1 record or about 5 minutes. Your tip is paid in advance and is $5-$25 depending on the club or bar.

#4) Private Dancing - This is when you and a customer go to a private location (within the club) for a Table Dance, Lap Dance or a Slow Dance. Since it's private and lasts 10-30 minutes, tips are about $20-$200 depending on the club.

#5) Limousine Rides - Of course this is not really a form of dancing, but it pays top dollar. You will only find this at the best upscale clubs. The customer pays by the hour for a limo ride with you. Believe it or not, some of these customers just want a little conversation with a beautiful woman, and often you can just sit there and look pretty. Of course he's gonna want to see some nudity, but remember he can't touch you unless you want to be touched. The upscale clubs take that rule very seriously. I've seen guys thrown out by bouncers on their ass because they touched a dancer. Customers pay for the limo in advance & tips are about $150+ per hour.

 How do you get paid?

There was a time when very few women performed exotic dancing, so the clubs would pay you to come in and dance at their establishment. But things have changed dramatically in the 90's. Some clubs may still pay you $20-$100 to dance for a shift (plus you keep all tips), however, this is usually reserved for "Featured Dancers." A Feature Dancer is someone who is so popular with customers, the club is willing to pay them just for coming in. In the 90's most Feature Dancers are XXX Adult Video Stars. Now in a few clubs, you pay the club $5-$20 (known as a tip out fee) to dance for a shift, and you keep all your tips. However, in most clubs, you just come in and make money off your tips. They don't pay you and you don't pay them just to work a shift. Nude clubs & topless bars usually have either 8 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts. In most clubs & bars the customer can buy you a drink. Non-alcoholic or alcoholic depending on the establishment. This could be a $6 beer or a $50 bottle of Moet. The club keeps the money from his drink. You get back the money from your drink or split it 50/50 (or some other percentage) with the club. When you perform lap dances or table dances you keep the entire tip for yourself. When you perform a private dance in a separate room, the club may want to get a percentage of your money for providing the private area. There are some clubs & bars which do have "House Girls," meaning you work for the club exclusively. They pay you to come in and dance, plus you get to keep your tips.

What about your Appearance & Wardrobe?

The simple rule is "The better you look the more money you are going to make." That means your hair should always be in some type of style, if not invest in a few good wigs. Fingernails and toenails should be trimmed and painted. Makeup should be as beautiful as you can make it. Clothing should be as sexy and exotic as you can get. That means spandex & lycra mini dresses and pants. Booty cutters or daisy duke type shorts. Boostier type bras. Lingerie with stockings and garter belts. G-string bikini swimwear. Clothing made from PVC is definitely in vogue. High heel shoes are a must. Wardrobe is so important because customers like to see a variety of outfits in one night. If you dance in one outfit and come back on stage in the same outfit 2 hours later, those customers who saw you the first time will definitely lose interest. Plus having a good wardrobe is a great way to separate yourself from the dancers that don't.

Where can you buy your wardrobe?

Most of the sexiest exotic dancer clothing is sold through mailorder companies. But of course, most of these companies cater to the shape of White woman. Of course you can find some great lingerie at your local Victoria's Secret, Frederick's of Hollywood, or other retail store. There are even a few specialty shops located in New York City & California that specialize in exotic dancer wardrobe.

How should you contact local clubs or bars about dancing?

Clubs are always looking for new dancers. Some may make you audition first or require that you send them a photo. Some will tell you to come in and start working whenever you choose without an audition. Some may even want to formally interview you, but this is very rare. Just call or visit the club and ask to speak to the manager. Tell him you want to dance there. He will tell you what to do from there.

How should you contact out of state clubs or bars about dancing?

If you want to take what's known as a "working vacation," where you visit another city to dance, then you need to make proper arrangements. First step is to call the club and speak to the manager. Tell him you're an experienced exotic dancer and your visiting his city at a certain time, and you want to dance at his establishment. Most likely, he will be very interested and will tell you to visit his club or bar when you get in town. This way he can meet you in person. Now, if you have some professional photos of yourself, you should tell the manager, so you can mail them directly to him. This way he can see how you look, and he may guarantee you can work at his establishment before he even meets you! I recommend one headshot and three body shots where you are partially nude in some of your best outfits. Don't forget a resume. That's right! It shows you are a professional and a step ahead of the competition.

How do I find these clubs and bars?

You can find them right here in the clubs section of this site.

How should I contact Party Promoters?

Some promoters have a good reputation and have been in business for several years, others are fly by night operations looking to make a quick dollar. Sorry, I can't make any recommendations in this area.

Should you work with a Booking Agent or an Exotic Dancer Agency?

You could go that route if you choose. It may be a good place to start for beginners. There are a few good agents out there who have an extensive knowledge of the business. There are several Exotic Dancers who run their own agencies too. They can help book you at Bachelor Parties, help you with your wardrobe, and get you bookings in clubs and bars. But usually after several months of experience, most dancers end up booking themselves once they know where the best nude clubs and topless bars are located and once they have their wardrobe together. But it's still a good place to start for some ladies who would rather be guided by an experienced hand.

 How about your Personal Safety?

While dancing in an established club or topless bar your safety is pretty much assured while inside. Most places have a "zero tolerance policy," meaning that if you're having any problems with a customer, the club will put them out. Now if you're going to have a problem, most of the time it will occur when it's time for you go home. Many clubs are located in isolated areas, or areas that are very quiet at nighttime. If you have your own car, always let one of the bouncers walk you to it. If you don't have a car, I suggest you have the phone numbers to all the local car services in that area. So when you're ready to leave the club, you can just jump in a cab.

 What about Escort Services?

Escort services can be an interesting way to make money. You can find hundreds of them listed in the Yellow Pages of most any major city in the United States. There are 2 kinds of escort services, Legitimate & Illegal.

#1) Legitimate - In a legal escort service you actually escort men, usually travelling business men, who are in town and need a "date" for the evening. The men pay the escort agency directly, usually on their credit card, and the escort agency pays you for your time. From my experience there are very few "Legitimate" escort services.

#2) Illegal - To be blunt, most escort services are just fronts for prostitution rings. They may cater to traveling business men, local business men, or just lonely men. They usually specialize in 1 of 2 types of services, Incall or Outcall. Let's explain them both:

#1) Incall - You get to provide your "services" in the safety of a house or apartment. The house or apartment is broken down into many little rooms where you perform services on your clients. The "house" provides the bed, condoms, clean towels, etc. Clients may pay by cash or credit and you usually split the money with the "house."

#2) Outcall - Instead of working inside, you have to meet your clients on the outside or at a location of their choosing. This could be their home, a luxury hotel room, a cheap motel, you name it. Of course outcall is more dangerous than working incall, simply because you're not working in a place that is controlled by you. Your on their turf. However, most escort services do run or should run background checks all a prospective clients. Once again you usually split the money with the "house."

 What about Adult Videos?

First of all there are two types of Adult Videos, softcore and hardcore. Let's explain them both:

#1) Softcore - These videos may have no nudity such as swimwear videos, partial nudity such as topless dancing, or even total nudity. These videos are rated R or Mature. For a movie to be softcore, there can be no sexual acts performed and no penetration. Companies like Playboy and my company, produce these types of videos. To see what softcore videos are like just turn on your TV to the Playboy Channel, because that's the only type of videos they show. Softcore videos are often sold in adult video stores and national chain stores like Blockbuster Video, Circuit City, Tower Records, etc. National chain stores usually will not sell XXX rated hardcore videos.

#2) Hardcore - These films are X, XX or XXX rated. Some people call them "Porno Movies." Meaning there is live sex recorded on video whether between Male & Female, Female & Female, Male & Male, or Masturbation by using toys (dildos, vibrators, etc.) These videos are usually sold in adult video stores, and rented out in mom & pop video stores. And by the way, there is no difference how many XXX's are listed, all you really need is one.

How do you get into the XXX Adult Video Industry?

Breaking into the adult film industry is both easy and difficult at the same time. It's easy because if you want to do XXX rated films there are numerous companies, both amateur and professional, that will shoot a video with you for little or no pay. That's right, NO PAY! A lot of companies have live sex auditions, which they videotape, to see if you're really serious. Of course you have to sign a video release form, which makes it legal. Most of these companies are located in California. Now it's also hard because unless you have the right face, body, and a completely uninhibited attitude, you're not going make any real money. Some of the top Black female XXX stars like Janet Jacme, Dominique Simone, Heather Hunter, Persia, and Champagne may get paid $500-$1000 per video. I know it doesn't sound like much money, but lets say you make 100 videos per year, and some ladies do just that, we're talking about $50,000-$100,000. Plus, from the exposure they get from videos these ladies make additional income when they tour around the country (dancing at clubs and signing autographs for fans at Adult Video Stores.) Most ladies just don't have the right look, attitude and state of mind for XXX videos. And at best may make about $300 per video. Plus, there's the concern about sexual transmitted diseases. Most professional adult video companies require that you take an HIV test every month. But of course that's no guarantee.

What about posing nude in Adult Magazines?

Posing nude in a magazine is another area some ladies may want to get into. The money varies greatly from about $400-$700 for a photo layout in a small magazine such as DeUnique Magazine, Portfolio Magazine, etc., or to $20,000 if you're Playboy Centerfold of the month. Of course, Playboy can pay the big bucks because they sell 4 million copies of their magazine per month, have their own cable TV channel, and have the #1 selling adult videos in the USA. Most magazines which cater to the Black or Hispanic Market, sell about 100 thousand copies per month and have no cable TV channel, so the pay is much lower. If you contact a magazine they will definitely want to see a photo of you, probably nude, so you can't be shy. Most magazines have photographers or photography agencies that they will refer you to for the actual photo shoot. These people are professionals and have sets, props, lighting, makeup and everything else necessary to make you look your best. Wardrobe is usually your department. Now I know some ladies think "I can let my boyfriend or someone else I know take some photos of me and the magazine will publish them." Forget that. Magazines have very high photographic standards. Plus contracts and photo release forms have to be signed to make it all legal.

What about posing for Swimwear Calendars & Posters?

Most companies that produce calendars and posters are catering to a very specific market. That market is men who want to have a picture of a beautiful woman in their home or workplace, but a picture that will not offend your average adult woman or child. That's why most calendars & posters do not show any nudity. Posing for a calendar or poster can get you "positive" exposure in the entire entertainment industry. From movies, videos, modeling jobs, music videos, etc., without the possible "negative" exposure you can get from posing nude in magazines. But the pay scale for most calendars is little or none. Most compensation will come from the exposure you get or traveling to an exotic location for a photo shoot.

Got it, Now Go Get It!

As you can see there are various avenues one can go to get into the field of Exotic Dancing & Adult Entertainment. I hope this guide gave you ladies some insights. I know this field is not for everybody, but for those who do choose this field of work, I'm backing you 100%.
